At Ecomondo, Italy\u2019s leading green economy trade fair, Nord Engineering signed a collaboration with BTT Italia, a company specialised in the recovery and refining of precious metals, to revolutionise the approach to managing Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This important collaboration aims to promote Urban Mining, the practice of recovering resources from urban waste, contributing to a circular and sustainable economy in which we no longer talk about recycling but about upcycling. When disposed of correctly, electrical and electronic devices are in fact a valuable source of materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today WEEE collection is often ineffective, due to citizens\u2019 limited awareness of correct disposal and to the effort of reaching dedicated collection centres. Nord Engineering and BTT are committed to more accessible and practical collection solutions, making WEEE disposal easier for the whole community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separate collection of WEEE is crucial to protect human health and the environment, since incorrect disposal can seriously pollute soil, water and air because of the toxic substances these devices contain. The partnership can also reduce dependence on imported precious materials, thanks to the extraction of metals such as gold, silver and platinum from discarded WEEE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt Ecomondo we previewed a prototype of a widespread urban container for WEEE collection,\u201d explains Malachy Musso, CEO of Nord Engineering, \u201ca secure object that will hold the electrical and electronic waste coming from citizens\u2019 homes. We hope everyone will understand the importance of this tool and recognise how essential it is to make WEEE recycling easier. Our commitment with BTT aims to make it not only accessible but also sustainable, through a transformation that targets Net Zero.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BTT Italia, with almost 45 years of experience in the purification of precious metals, will be at the heart of the processing phase from an upcycling perspective. Its expertise covers both the custom design of plants and the use of advanced, sustainable treatment methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom the bedside table to the gold bar: sustainable, circular and traceable, and that is what we are working for,\u201d says Omar Antonio Cescut, Sales & Marketing Director of BTT. \u201cMaking it easy and safe to hand in electronic devices that are no longer used is the first important step towards a collection that recovers all the value contained in WEEE, especially precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, copper and other strategic metals. This model will be activated both in Italy and abroad, so that every city can grow starting from the value of its own territory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement between the two companies opens a professional collaboration that could change the way WEEE is disposed of. Working together, they will combine their skills to develop innovative solutions for the management, collection and treatment of this waste.
